How can we consider four first calf heifers as being “foundation” females you ask, well it’s a very long story but here is the short version.

The story begins (and is still being written) with SCC MS BUD 418-1128 ET. We recognized this female as being an extremely complete cow that we thought would mate up nicely to our PF IMPRESSED 620 bull. This mating produced a set of very attractive females and incredibly stout bulls for us. The next step was to mate her to our RC CHARLIE 0305 (CHARLIE 4) bull, which produced the four full sib flush-mate females you see on this page as well as our Dominion Jr. herd sire (see sire page). After bringing the last of our 1128 females into production this spring, all doubts have been removed as to the greatness of this cow as well as the two in-herd sires that we mated her with. Mass on wheels is the way to describe them but from a quarter mile away you can see their (stop the truck) beautiful feminine profiles.

Tom and Jen Cannon visited our place back in 2007 in search of a donor dam. After looking through the herd Tom purchased SCC MS BUD 418-1128 ET as his choice of the herd.

Only five months after they got her home, 1128 generated $17,000.00 in embryo sales! 1128 also produced what came to be the high selling heifers in the Cannon Charolais dispersal. Creasey Charolais in IL Purchased the high selling daughter at $9,500 with Haley Stalcup having the winning bid on the second highest heifer at $6,250 along with three other calves averaging $3,300. SCC MS BUD 418-1128 ET produced a total of $44,000 in embryos and progeny for the Cannon’s in only fifteen months. 1128 was purchased out of the dispersal sale by Hansen Charolais of SD for $10,500 where she is currently in their transplant program.

So you can see even though SCC MS BUD 418-1128 ET is no longer at Wooden Cross, she clearly was one of the matron’s of our herd while she was here. Her progeny and this great cow family will continue to be at work here at Wooden Cross for many years to come. Thanks for listening!
