Charolais Harvest Data
We continue to build our program based completely around the sound fundamentals of practical beef production. Our Charolais cows must be efficient, maternal and have stayability. Our bulls must be fertile, rugged and soggy. The calves that they produce must quite simply, have it all.
Please see below our most recent harvest data. I think that you will agree that together we are headed in the right direction. When we say “We are Wooden Cross…the cattle business…Cattle Company” we say it with complete dedication to the Charolais breed and to our industry. Please consider Wooden Cross as your seed-stock provider. Thank you.
Wooden Cross Cattle Company
Below is the carcass data on our 2009 late Spring born heifers. The average age of the heifers at harvest was 435 days with May 20th being the average date of birth. They were weaned the first week of November 2009 and run out on grass until the middle of December then put on a dry grower ration until which time they were shipped to the feed yard on February 26, 2009. We held 40% of our 2009 heifers for replacements with these Charolais females representing the balance.

This group of Charolais heifers was fed at Knight Feedyard at Lyons Ks. We were extremely pleased with the job they did not only feeding our Charolais cattle but also with the incredible customer service they provided us which in my opinion is second to none. Thank you Mark, Kenny, Tim and the entire staff at Knights feedyard for helping to make this project a great success. We would highly recommend Knights to any of our bull customers. Please contact us for any help that you might need in making feeding arrangements.
Leroy Kraus Ranch
The following harvest data was taken from Charolais cattle raised on the Leroy Kraus ranch of Marion, Ks. These cattle were the commodity heifers that were left over after Mr. Krause pulled forty head of replacements. The average age of the heifers at harvest was 442 days. After weaning, the Charolais cattle were grazed on native Flint Hills grass and then sent to the feed yard. For the most part the heifers were the progeny of Wooden Cross Charolais bulls out of a very good set of moderate to large framed British crossed cows. Thank you Mr. Kraus for allowing us to publish this data and for using Wooden Cross bulls.
